Saputara Hill Station
Gujarat's picturesque hill station is perched on a plateau at an altitude of about 1000m in the Dang forest area of the Sahyadari Range. It has a cool bracing climate, the highest temperature even in the summer months not exceeding 28 degrees Centigrade. Saputara is situated 160 kms from Surat. Legend has it that Lord Rama spent 11 years of his exile in these very forests.
Saputara, literally the ‘abode of serpents’, is Saputara best known hill resort ,at the height of 875 metres, saputara offers a pleasant climate and panoramic view of lush green Dang forest. The hill station is small enough to be entirely covered by foot. perched on a plateau in the Dangs forest area in the Sahyadri range of mountains, offering breathtaking views of the sunrise and sunset. The town has an image of a serpent on the banks of the river Sarpganga which is worshipped by adivasis or tribals.
HOW TO REACH
By Air: Nearest airport is Mumbai.
By Rail: Nearest railway station is Waghai, on the Billimora - Waghi narrow gauge section of the Western Railway. For those coming from Gujarat via Surat or Ahmedabad or even tom Bombay, Billimora is the most convenient rail head as direct bus service is available from there.
By Road: State transport buses end private luxury coaches connects various centres of Gujarat and Maharashtra. It is situated 409 kms from Ahmedabad and 51 kms from Waghai.
Local Transport: Hired jeeps from Ahwa; organised tours within and outside Saputara in mini buses by Chitrakoot/ Vaity during peak seasons (two buses). Organised tours by TCGL.
