Fairs & Festivals in North India
India has several beautiful and splendid forts & monuments in the world. These forts & monuments owe their execution and creation to the imagination of men who dared to extend their ideas to the farthest limits of human thought. As kings and emperors, they were able to translate their ideas into bricks, mortar, marble and stone. These forts & monuments range through a span of centuries and the major philosophies of the world.

  • Taj Mahotsav, Agra
    The annual festival of Taj Mahotsav is held during 18th to 27th of February every year. The venue is Shilpgram, near Taj Mahal. The festival is an ode to the rich cultural heritage of Uttar Pradesh. Lasting for 10 days, the festival is an everlasting experience. The festival is a continous 10 days celebration, with artists from all over India showcasing there talent. Taj Mahotsav is one of the spectacular festival in India and is organized by Uttar Pradesh Tourism. Spring time is the time of the year when nature dawns all it's colourful grandeur and Agra bursts into colourful celebrations. For 10 days there is a sheer celebration of Uttar Pradesh's rich heritage of arts, crafts, culture, cuisine, dance and music. It is the time of Taj Mahotsava. There are festivities all around and Agra truly puts on the colours of joy and gets modified into one non-stop carnival. It is one of the major attractions for tourists, as it draws thousands of visitors to Agra from India as well as abroad. During the festival, Agra and Taj comes to a new life with heaps of activities. The whole place looks like a mini Uttar Pradesh market.
  • Surajkund Mela, Surajkund, Haryana
    As spring glides in, full of warmth and vibrancy leaving the gray winter behind, Surajkund adorns itself with colorful traditional crafts of India. Craftsmen from all over the country assemble at Surajkund during the first fortnight of February to participate in the annual celebration known as the Surajkund Crafts Mela. This Mela (fair) is a meeting ground for talented artists, painters, weavers, sculptors and craftsmen form all over India who exhibit their creations for the arts and crafts lovers who come from the world over to admire and acquire these creations.

    Surajkund (literally, 'Lake of the Sun') is a dusty little town in Haryana, on the outskirts of Delhi. For two weeks every year, on February 1-15, it gets transformed into a sprawling and comprehensive craftsmen's village. The Surajkund Mela is not just the biggest artisans' fair in the country; it is also unique in that every year there is a different theme to the fair. So, nobody can say, "I've been to it," and ignore this celebration of the essence of Indian culture and traditional crafts.
  • Pushkar Fair, Rajasthan
    The Pushkar Fair in Rajasthan in North India is an exotic celebration of the colors of life. Come to Pushkar on a Pushkar Tour and see the largest camel fair in the world. Watch folk dancers dressed in colorful costumes dance to the rhythm of a desert melody and see a beauty contest with a difference - for the contestants are all camels! Pushkar is full of surprises, so prepare to be amazed by the color and energy of the desert carnival at Pushkar.

    Dance music and colorful shops spring up during this fair. Also on sale are mouth-watering traditional delicacies. Colorfully attired village folk enhance the fun of the occasion. A host of cultural event against the backdrop of this pretty setting is also organized including attractive puppet shows. Cattle auction and camel races are also a part of the festivities.

    Pushkar is among the five Dhams or pilgrimages that are held in high esteem by Hindus, the others being Badrinath, Puri, Rameswaram, and Dwarka.
